On Dec. 4, 2013, UNESCO announced the addition of Traditional Japanese Cuisine (washoku) to its Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Intangible Cultural Heritage assets are communal cultural expressions that have been passed from one generation to another, and foster a sense of group identity and continuity.
